How Can cough Along With Breathlessness Be Treated?

My son has shortness of breath, coughing. Two visits to his doctor already. They sent him home with an acid blocker similar to Prilosec. I don t think he has acid reflex, ulcer, etc. since he has shortness of breath. He is 33 years old and a childhood cancer survivor. He also gets hot and then cold at night sleeping. no fever.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi welcome to the health care magic

Cough can occur because of acid reflux disease but dyspnea usually not from acid reflux disease unless and until from complicated reflux and pressure on respiratory tract....

If you are having acid reflux disease and no improvement then better to rule out Hiatus hernia like condition from endoscopy or barium x ray

If reflux not associated then for dyspnea spirometry and chest x ray like investigation needs to be done

If you are having any positive cardiac history then provide it

If no cause found then stress history should be taken to rule out panic attack

So this much evaluation should be done according to need after examination

Consult good physician or pulmonologoist for examination and discuss your case

Take care
